Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Paper Matters collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect your name and email if you subscribe to our newsletter, plus your message if you contact us, and our analytics are anonymous and cookie-free.

Paper Matters is an editorial project about handmade, editioned printmaking, operated by Luma Studios LLC, doing business as Paper Matters (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what information we collect from visitors, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have kept it short, because we collect very little.
What we collect
There are only three situations in which we collect anything at all.
When you subscribe to our newsletter. If you sign up, we collect your name and email address — that is all we ask for. When you submit the form, those details are delivered to us by email so we can add you to the newsletter, and we use them only to send you what you signed up for.
When you send us a message. If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the message you write. We use these only to read your message and reply, and never for marketing. When you submit the form, those details are delivered to us by email.
When you read the site. We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how the site is used in aggregate — which essays are read, where visitors arrive from, and broad technical details such as browser, device, and approximate location (country or region). Umami does not use cookies, does not collect personal information, and does not track you across other websites. We see patterns, not people.
We do not collect anything else. There are no user accounts, no comments, no shopping cart, and no advertising.
Cookies
We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies, and our analytics are entirely cookie-free, so the site does not show a cookie banner. The newsletter sign-up form sets no cookies either — it simply sends us your details by email.
How we use your information
We use the information you provide solely to send you our newsletter and, where relevant, to read and reply if you write to us. We use the anonymous analytics data to understand what readers find useful and to improve the site. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we never use it for advertising.
Who handles your data
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the site, and they process data only on our behalf:
- Resend — the email service that delivers your newsletter sign-ups and contact-form messages to us. When you submit either form, Resend sends us an email containing the details you entered. We do not use a double opt-in for the newsletter, and signing up does not trigger an automated email to you.
- Umami — our analytics tool, described above, which records only anonymous, aggregated data.
We do not share your information with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
If you would rather not hear from us, you can ask to be removed at any time by writing to info@papermatters.co, and we will delete your details. You can also write to that address to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR, including the right to access, correct, delete, or object to our use of your personal data. If you are a California resident, you have comparable rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what we collect and to request its deletion. Because we collect so little and never sell your data, most of these requests are simple to honour — just write to us at the address above.
Keeping your information
We keep your newsletter details only for as long as you wish to hear from us. If you ask to be removed, we delete them. Anonymous analytics data is retained only in aggregate and cannot be traced back to you.
Children
Paper Matters is intended for an adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 16.
Other websites
Our essays often link to other websites — museums, publishers, and reference sources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site grows — for example, if we add a new channel or service. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page.
